Why your small business may fail
The automotive industry is the industry that makes all the cars. The country that currently makes the most cars is China. The second is Japan. The United States comes in third on that list in the automotive industry. That is just interesting because the United States started Ford and many others. New car sales have increased dramatically since the downturn of 2008. Consolidation and restructuring has played an enormous part in the auto industrys ability to rebound. As of late, the new trend is online sales. We are starting to see more and more of the large, well known, brick and mortar brands close their doors. The online businesses are prospering, more and more, every day. For instance, if you want to purchase clothing, movies, household good, food, cleaning supplies, or even Dodge Truck Parts, you can now go online, and do so very quickly and conveniently.Over half of new businesses will fail within the first year of operation. With so many odds against you, how can you ensure that your new business venture can withstand the hardships and tests that it is going to face? Here are some of the reasons why small businesses fail and what you can do about these trials.
Phillip Thow says you often start your business for the wrong reasons. A lot of people simply don't get what it means to run a business and what they need to do. If you think it will be easy, you are severely mistaken. All of those commercials on television saying "be your own boss" and "set your own hours" might paint a pretty picture but it's a very unrealistic picture. If you think that starting your own business will give you more time to spend with your loved ones, you haven't done your research! The good thing is these dreams and wants can happen when you are able to put the right type of work and passion into your business and in a few years you may be able to get to this level. Starting a new company will take a lot of work, a lot of sacrifices, and it will have a lot of stress but you can do it!
Management that doesn't communicate and doesn't function effectively is another big reason why your business may fail. There are a lot of people that do not understand how to be a manager. They do not understand how to juggle a number of things from financing to hiring employees. Phillip Thow says one of the best things you can do is to attend management courses where you are able to learn about production, selling, purchasing, and communication. Sometimes being a manager is a work in progress but you can master it with the right dedication.
Do you have the money you need to start your own business? Phillip Thow explains that having insufficient operating funds will doom your new business in no time. Doing your research and meet with a skilled financial expert so you have correct estimates as to how much money you need to open your business. It will take about 2 years before your business really starts generating cash so you need to have plenty of money to keep the business in operation during this time.
Lastly Phillip Thow explains that location is the vital piece of staying in business. There are a lot of companies out there that simply do not choose a good location. Here are the things you must always consider as you are seeking a location for your business:
- Where are your customers?
- Where are your competitors?
- Traffic issues and parking concerns
- Is the building and area safe? Is the parking lot well lit and is the business easy to spot?
